Geological features and ore-forming mechanisms of the Chating Cu–Au deposit: A rare case of porphyry deposit in the Middle–Lower Yangtze River metallogenic belt

•The Chating Cu–Au deposit is a rare case of porphyry deposit.•The ore-hosting position and wall-rock strata mark its particularity.•Ore-forming fluids experienced two boiling events at least.•Cryptoexplosive breccia pipe is closely related to mineralization in genesis.•A thermal metamorphic shield is in favor of porphyry ores but not skarn ores.
