Five-factor model personality traits and grip strength: Meta-analysis of seven studies

•Neuroticism was related to lower grip strength in seven samples and a meta-analysis.•Higher extraversion and conscientiousness were related to higher grip strength.•Higher openness was related to higher grip strength.•Depressive symptoms, physical activity, and BMI mediated these associations.•CRP mediated the association between conscientiousness and grip strength.
