•A sensitivity analysis of stepped-lip chamber geometry parameters was carried out.•The lip radius has the greatest influence on power due to fuel splitting at lip.•A methodology is established with MIGA for combustion chamber design at high load.•The optimized chamber shows a good performance on combustion and emission.
