The “Ta‘anakh Winepress” Revisited Further Evidence of the Middle Bronze Age Wine Industry in the Jezreel Valley

In this article we examine a type of rock-hewn winepress initially exposed below the Tel Ta‘anakh fortifications. Similar winepresses have been exposed in subsequent excavations and surveys in the Jezreel Valley. After reviewing the surveyed and excavated data, we set out the parameters for identifying the Ta‘anakh winepresses type. Their uniformity, chronology, and geographic distribution are discussed. The work process and the implications for the intensification of wine production in the Jezreel Valley during the first half of the second millennium are reviewed.
