Spatial and temporal changes in nutrients associated with dam regulation of the Yellow River

•Changes in suspended sediment content and flow rate are not synergistic during WSRS.•Nutrient contents vary significantly between dissolved and particulate phases.•Nutrient contents show no significant spatial difference during sediment regulation.•Content and transformation of nutrients are likely driven by different factors.
