Abstract
Electric propulsion aircraft tends to be a promising way to reach the aviation carbon reduction goals in addition to evolutionary/revolutionary aircraft technologies and operational strategies. In this paper, we perform analysis and optimization studies for hybrid electric propulsion aircraft. To enhance the reliability of the study, verified aircraft disciplinary data are used to build surrogate models for detailed HEP flight mission study. Sensitivity studies on flight altitude, Mach number, hybridization level and battery usage strategy are carried out. Besides, scenario study on electric propulsion technologies is also performed. For overall aircraft performance optimization, the mixed integer non-linear programming (MINLP) approach is applied to include both continuous and discrete design variables which can reflect the real-world air traffic control regulation requirements.
