Superficial versus deep inguinal nodal dissection for vulvar cancer staging

•Superficial inguinal LND had no significant difference in rate of recurrence or overall survival when compared to deep inguinal LND in patients with vulvar SCC.•Superficial inguinal lymph node dissection may be safe and feasible in patients who are not a candidate for sentinel lymph node biopsy with vulvar cancer.•Superficial inguinal lymph node dissection is associated with a significant reduction in post-operative morbidity as compared to full inguinal lymph node dissection.
