Fascioliasis complicated by acute necrotizing pancreatitis in an Ethiopian child – a case report on a rare complication of a rarely reported emerging disease

•Human fascioliasis remains under-diagnosed in many parts of Africa.•Fascioliasis should be considered when faced with patients with dietary risk factors, eosinophilia and liver lesions.•Positive serology is better than egg detection for the diagnosis of fascioliasis.•Untreated fascioliasis has hepatobiliary complications, including pancreatitis.
