Abstract
•We introduced the fear of negative evaluation into evaluating the effectiveness of nursing teaching.•Both self-efficacy and fear of negative evaluation were negatively associated with the negative silence in the classroom.•Self-efficacy plays a mediating role between the fear of negative evaluation and the negative silence in the classroom.
