A 2-Year Institutional Review of Transcarotid Arterial Revascularization Examining Improvements in Surgical Technique and Immediate Outcomes

Carotid artery stenosis continues to be a major cause of cerebrovascular accident. Surgical intervention is recommended for symptomatic stenosis >50% and asymptomatic stenosis >70%. Although traditional open carotid endarterectomy remains the standard of care, transcarotid arterial revascularization (TCAR) with flow reversal is quickly becoming a viable alternative to the open approach. The objective of this study was to report our 2-year institutional experience after adopting this technique, examining the immediate outcomes and improvements in technique over time.
