Provenance and tectonic setting of the Statherian Hangaoshan Group: Implications for evolution of the North China Craton during late Paleoproterozoic

•The Hangaoshan Group in the Lvliang Mountain area was formed between ca. 1.80 and ca. 1.69 Ga.•The Lvliang complex were the domainted provenances of the Hangaoshan Group.•The Hangaoshan Group deposited in a rift basin of the central NCC.•The Xiong’er rift extends to the Lvliang area during ca. 1.78 Ga, developing the Xiaoliangling Formation in the eastern part of the Lvliang rift basin and the Hangaoshan Group in the western part.
