Abstract
This paper provides an analysis of different designs for the nonlinear controllers and explores a comparison of each design approach. The objective of the controller is to stabilize the system around its operating position. Although various linear controllers are already in use for controlling the DC microgrid, most of these controllers are not able to mitigate the undesirable effects introduced by constant power load (CPL). The CPL is nonlinear and exhibits a negative impedance effect, making the system unstable. The major challenge faced in the control design of a DC microgrid is to minimize the effect of the negative impedance as a result of the nonlinear nature of CPL. Nonlinear control is required for the DC microgrid to get improved performance and higher efficiency.
