Abstract
•Optimization of Tmax in customized region are studied using variational method.•An approximate objective function is proposed to characteristic Tmax.•Optimization equations with min(Tmax) for solid and flow regions are derived.•Tmax of the customized region is reduced by 22.6 K using the developed equations.•The developed optimization equations achieve lower Tmax and ΔT than previous ones.
