Genome analysis uncovers the prolific antagonistic and plant growth-promoting potential of endophyte Bacillus velezensis K1

•The whole genome of an endophyte Bacillus subtilis K1 was sequenced and annotated.•Based on phylogenomics, the bacterium was re-classified to Bacillus velezensis K1.•Genetic determinants of antibiosis and plant-beneficial traits were identified.•A large part of the genome (∼17.2%) was dedicated to biosynthetic gene clusters.•Comparative genomic analysis with 18 reported Bacillus strains was performed.
