Purpose: The use of surface radiation therapy and surface brachytherapy is a treatment option for patients who are not surgical candidates or who after surgery are found to have risk factors such as close margins, infiltrative tumors, perineural or lymphovascular invasion that makes adjuvant treatments necessary. It is also a treatment option for patients whose tumor location is a cosmetically sensitive area that may cause some type of disfigurement. Traditionally, brachytherapy has been delivered with radioactive isotopes as Iridium -192.
