Abstract
This study analyzed the biomass combustion in a vertical counter-current fixed-bed. The experimental device, designed and constructed in the framework of BioF2S project funded by IRESEN, consists of a vertical tube combustion chamber, a steel grate with circular holes of 4 mm diameter, air supply system, data acquisition system and various measurements equipment (flow meter, thermocouples and gas analyzer). Experimental tests were carried out with wood pellets solid fuel for three normal volume flow rates (2.5, 3.25 and 4 Nm 3 /h). The effect of this fundamental parameter on instantaneous temperature profiles, average temperature at the combustor center, bed height, combustion layer thickness, ignition front velocity and mass ignition rate was shown. Gas emissions analyses have also been discussed.
