Analyses of selected tumour-associated factors expression in normotensive and preeclamptic placenta

•Six tumour associated factors namely ALDH3A1, AURK-A, AURK-C, PDGFRα, JAG1 and TWIST1 have differential expression in late-onset PE placenta when compared to the normotensive women.•Spheroids produced from trophoblast cell lines HTR8/SVneo and TEV-1 elicited more invasive potential than the corresponding parental cell.•Spheroids also had similar expression pattern of these six factors when compared with the parental cell.•Collectively our results suggest that the placental cells exhibit invasive potential even at term.
