The article deals with the design of a robotic system for exploration of an unknown environment. The system has to be able to map the environment and collect information about its surroundings, which can be used in Industry 4.0. Mapping utilizes robot’s proximity sensor system without using cameras. Such approach is more complex but is not as sensitive to the ambient light as the camera systems are. Supplement information (e.g. temperature, carbon oxide or carbon dioxide concentration …) is collected using Waspmote technology by Libelium, which is a modular system for sensoric networks, easily extendible by almost any desired sensor. The main aim of the article is the hardware and software design of the robot’s sensor system sensing nearby obstacles.
