The status of integration of herbal medicines into modern clinical practice and possible development of the market

Abstract With the increased popularity of herbal medicine and the primary goal of the World Health Organization (WHO) to include herbal medicine (HM) in its implementation of the universal health coverage, the global health-care delivery system is faced with needs and challenges related to the integration of HM with modern clinical practice (MCP). This chapter attempts to investigate the status and factors that affect the integration of HM with MCP. Specifically, the process and context of integration, global market of HM, instances of integration of HM into MCP, and factors affecting the integration of HM into MCP are discussed. In conclusion, we suggested strategies to improve the integration of HM into MCP.
