Abstract
Ceramic materials have excellent properties such as high strength, high hardness, high wear resistance, high-temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, and so on. Therefore, ceramic materials could be used in many fields, such as aerospace and biomedicine. However, complex-shaped ceramic parts are difficult to fabricate by traditional methods. Additive manufacturing (AM) is a promising method to resolve this problem. This chapter systematically introduces ceramic materials for AM. First, several commonly used AM technologies and principles of ceramic materials are introduced, including stereolithography, three-dimensional printing, selective laser melting, laminated objected manufacturing, fused deposition modeling, and selective laser sintering (SLS). Second, as one of the most widely used AM technologies of ceramic materials, the forming mechanism of the ceramics prepared by SLS is detailed. Finally, this chapter introduces ceramic powders, polymer binders, and preparation methods of composite ceramic powders for SLS; then, the properties of several kinds of dense and porous ceramics prepared by SLS are detailed introduced.
