摘要
Earth's radiation belt electrons exhibit pronounced dynamic variability in response to solar activity and resultant changes in the solar wind. The nonadiabatic variability of radiation belt electrons is primarily caused by energy and momentum transfer during interactions with various magnetospheric waves. This chapter reviews recent advances in both our understanding of the excitation mechanisms and global distribution of all important magnetospheric waves and the modeling of resultant wave-particle interactions that lead to large-scale radial transport, local stochastic acceleration, pitch-angle scattering, and ultimate loss by precipitation into the atmosphere.
