Abstract
Papillary thyroid cancer(PTC) is associated with a variety of genetic alterations. Recent advances in molecular genetics have demonstrated the presence of Echinoderm microtubule-associated protein-like 4 (EML4) and Anaplastic Lymphoma Receptor Tyrosine Kinase (ALK) fusion oncogene on Chromosome 2p in PTC, especially progressive tumors. Molecular diagnostics help determine prognosis and choice of treatment. Great progress has been made in understanding the RET-RAS-BRAF of the mitogen-activated protein kinase cascade. However, there has been relatively little experimental validation of the signaling pathways mediated by EML4-ALK. We present a rare case of aggressive PTC with EML4-ALK fusion in a young female.
