Abstract
Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) equipped with hyperspectral (HS) sensors offer novel solutions for close-range remote sensing tasks. The study aimed to: (1) describe image acquisition and processing workflow of HS data cubes; (2) test the performance of a UAV-mounted HS camera for providing several vegetation indices (VIs); (3) compare plant traits with HS-derived VIs. The comparison between agronomic variables and VIs calculated using 50 band hypercubes at very high spectral resolution revealed the highest R 2 values (0.38 on average) for enhanced vegetation index (EVI) and MTVI2. Vigor maps calculated through EVI and NDVI, showed a lower tendency of EVI to saturate in areas of high vigor. The data processing workflow holds good potential for operational use in precision viticulture.
