Creosote is a DNAPL (Dense Non-Aqueous Phase Liquid) and previous studies have detected this contaminant in groundwater samples from the site. Two spill locations are known. At one of these two locations we analyzed core samples using magnetic laboratory procedures such as magnetic susceptibility, thermomagnetic curves and environmagnetic parameters measurements. The magnetic analysis indicates an increase of ultrafine magnetic particles around the water table, a magnetic signature of microbial induced mineralization. At the other location, prior to a future drilling campaign, we used resistivity (ER) and induced polarization (IP) surface methods, to identify the contaminant impact on the soil and groundwater. The results show the spill zone locations, and possibly zones of different oil contents in the subsurface. Keywords: resistivity, induced polarization (IP), magnetic susceptibilityPermalink: https://doi.org/10.1190/segam2021-3583463.1FiguresReferencesRelatedDetails First International Meeting for Applied Geoscience & Energy Expanded AbstractsISSN (print):1052-3812 ISSN (online):1949-4645Copyright: 2021 Pages: 3561 publication data© 2021 Published in electronic format with permission by the Society of Exploration GeophysicistsPublisher:Society of Exploration Geophysicists HistoryPublished: 01 Sep 2021 CITATION INFORMATION Andrea Ustra, Carolina Moraes, Marianna Tagnin, Rosely Imbernon, Daniela Ferreira, and Alexandre Barbosa, (2021), "Searching for geophysical signatures of microbial activity at a hydrocarbon contaminated site," SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts : 3164-3168. https://doi.org/10.1190/segam2021-3583463.1 Plain-Language Summary Keywordsresistivityinduced polarization (IP)magnetic susceptibilityPDF DownloadLoading ...
