Implementation of Solar, UC/Battery-Based Hybrid Electric Vehicle with an Efficient Controller

The use of high-power density ultra capacitor (UC) into the EV electrical system and the organization of a battery with super capacitor combined power system can achieve complementary advantages to make up for the lack of power battery. This chapter is concerned with super capacitors and their applications in electric drive vehicles in arrangement with batteries. The arrangement of super capacitors with batteries has been used as the storage system whose input has been obtained from the solar panel for the hybrid vehicle. The DC–DC converter has been used for the vehicle to boost up the voltage of the battery and UC. The two input full bridge buck boost converter has been designed with MOSFET switches as the DC–DC converter where the buck or boost operation can be obtained based on the input voltage. To control the output of the converter PI controller and PID controller have been designed as the feedback controllers. Also a comparison has been performed between the PI and PID controllers and the entire design is simulated using MATLAB simulink and the hardware circuit of Arduino-based power circuit in interfacing battery pack and super capacitors has been implemented.
