The traditional design of composites took a significant portion of the product development time cycle. With the evolution of high-performance computing solutions, designing a new part or optimizing an existing part has become more cost-effective and efficient. This in turn reduces the time cycle required for product development and provides an opportunity for application development of composites into new market areas. In this chapter, the authors will discuss how digitization has enhanced the design of composite components and take a deep dive into the various performance-based failure criterion based on the application of these components. There will also be a discussion of components design with various materials and hybrid material to compare the lightweighting capabilities of multiple materials. In addition, the authors will discuss how computing solutions are increasing the penetration of composites into new markets and applications.
