Abstract
To alleviate climate change caused by carbon emissions, carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies have been widely studied and implemented in power plants and industrial processes with intensive carbon emissions. CCS is the process of capturing CO2 before or after it enters the atmosphere, transporting it, and storing it for sequestration or utilization. It can be integrated into systems of synthetic hydrocarbon production for CO2 utilization. In this chapter, various CCS methods, including traditional absorption and adsorption carbon capture, and more novel means, such as membrane-based, solar thermal, and hydrate-based carbon capture, are introduced. Existing pilots of direct air capture approaches are also reviewed.
