摘要
This paper presents a sizing and scheduling method to utilize a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) as a Non-Wires-Alternatives (NWA) solution. The proposed method explored the load shifting capability of the BESS and its impact on transformer hottest-spot temperature, aging, and insulation life extension. Furthermore, quantitative indices of extended life and system savings are introduced. Case studies including scheduling comparison, peak day, average day, and yearly analysis are accomplished in a real-world distribution network. Results show that a BESS that has a larger power and energy rating following transformer hottest-spot temperature to charge and discharge has the best performance as an NWA solution. The proposed methodology can help system planners better understand the BESS application for system upgrade deferral and be prepared for future storage operations.
