The Controllable Amplitude of 1-bit Wideband Column-Programmable Reflection Metasurface

Abstract
In this paper, a wideband 1-bit reconfigurable reflection metasurface is introduced to achieve the reflection amplitude adjustment. It is composed of 20×20 quasi-butterfly reflection elements soldering the PIN diodes, of which on and off states can keep a reflection phase difference of 160-180 degrees over the whole X band (8-12 GHz) with low reflection loss. After careful consideration of the whole layout, the direct current (DC) bias line connects the whole column elements in series in their E-field equipotential zero points. The simulated results show that the proposed metasurface can achieve the adjustment of the reflection amplitude with a range of 0-20 dB at 10 GHz and a range of 0-10 dB from 8-12 GHz, proving a good potential application in radar jamming and stealth.
