The substation and network data being generated by the SCADA system has been increasing for, at least, ten years. All this data is essential for the dispatch operators to monitor the real state of the distribution system and in real-time, analyse the events and incidents that take place during grid operation to make the best decisions under time pressure. However, is known that above some limit, the amount of information which needs to be processed by a dispatch operator overlaps its cognitive load capacity and consequently decreases the decision-making performance/accuracy as well as the time needed to decide. To aid the dispatch operators deal with this amount of data and taking advantages of previously developed algorithm used daily for several engineering activities, E-REDES developed and tried a solution that, in near real-time, ingest and process SCADA events and provide, to an operational dashboard, all the important information related to an outage, e.g., fault type, trip function, trip time, cross-country fault identification. The developed work, the results and the knowledge acquired during project execution, which includes the challenges of transforming an algorithm developed in batch format for daily engineering activities to a near real-time process, are addressed.
