Abstract
In this paper, the effective mechanical characteristics of porous ceramics were determined using numerical modeling of tension and compression of a representative volume in the 2D statement. An approach for numerical determination of the effective characteristics is described. The specific features of the proposed approach are the use of the real microscopic structure of porous ceramics without conducting fracture tests and the possibility to determine various elastic moduli carrying out only a single calculation. Thus, this approach allows for determining the effective mechanical properties of porous ceramics by having only their microscopic structure and the properties of corresponding non-porous material. The obtained effective elastic moduli and strength characteristics of porous corundum ceramics show good agreement with the experimental data obtained.
