Abstract
•Photosensitive pre-ceramic polymer resin is 3D printed and pyrolyzed to create SiOC.•Mechanical anisotropy of 3D printed SiOC ceramics and polymer precursors investigated.•Printing 90° to the build plate results in stronger ceramic materials.•Pyrolysis survival of 90°-samples is 94% whereas 0°-samples is only 54%•Print direction of precursors influences both manufacturing and mechanical strength.
