摘要
Acute stress is usually associated with adaptive responses, although, depending on the intensity and individual differences, some may experience maladaptive coping that persists through life and may influence subsequent responses to stressful events. For example, a single exposure to acute stress has long-term functional and structural consequences in the hippocampus, suggesting that the effects of acute stress are longer than previously thought. Since these long-term effects are found in the genome, we examined the epigenetic mechanisms that underlie persistent genome-wide signatures of stress coping.
