Silica aerogel-filled polymer foams by emulsion-templating: One-pot synthesis, hierarchical architecture and thermal conductivity

•Co-continuous hybrid foams are reported in which Si-aerogel intertwine porous polymer structure.•An architectural hierarchy in hybrids is realized through a hydrosol-in-oil emulsion templating.•Hybrid foams exhibited a pronounced macro-mesoporosity with high specific surface area.•Hybrids displayed high toughness and thermal conductivity equivalent to that of standing air.
