RP105 protects against ischemic and septic acute kidney injury via suppressing TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathways

•RP105 is a member of the TLR family and its expression plays a role in cardiovascular disease but the therapeutic impact on acute kidney injury remained unclear.•We have uncovered evidence that RP105 expression in proximal tubular cells plays a kidney protective role during ischemic and septic acute kidney injury.•RP105 reduces tubular cell death, NF-κB activation and inflammatory response during AKI with a mechanism involving interaction with TLR4.•This finding may have clinical translation as kidney protection and inflammation regulation could be achieved through RP105 gene therapy.
