Abstract

•Spatial-frequency characteristics by phase–amplitude coupling (PAC) for EEG source signals were analyzed.•Theta-alpha and alpha-beta PAC were observed during sevoflurane-induced loss of consciousness (LOC).•PAC was distributed unevenly in specific functional regions during sevoflurane-induced LOC.•Theta-alpha and alpha-beta PAC showed opposite patterns during sevoflurane-induced LOC.•Sevoflurane-induced LOC causes regulated local–global information processing of the brain.
