3D printing of customized all-starch tablets with combined release kinetics

•Starch-based tablets with different geometries were prepared by DIW 3D printing.•Starches from different sources were loaded with a non-soluble drug.•The rheology of the inks was influenced by the botanical origin of the starch.•The tablets showed different morphology, mechanical behavior and swelling capacity.•Tailored drug releases were obtained combining different starches and geometries.
