Abstract

•A facile strategy is proposed for the preparation of metallic vanadium from V2CO solid solution anode.•Controllable synthesis of V2CO was confirmed based on thermodynamic analysis and carbothermal reduction of V2O3.•The dissolution behavior of V2CO solid solution is analyzed.•The effects of anode and cathode current densities on the preparation of metallic vanadium are studied.
