Effect of tianeptine on depression in Parkinson's disease, an observational pilot study

Depression is frequent in Parkinson's disease (PD). Glutamate is a neurotransmitter involved in non-dopaminergic dysfunction in PD and could be associated with depression. In this sense, tianeptine, an antidepressant with an atypical mechanism of action modulating glutamate, could be useful to treat depression in PD. The aim of this study was to assess the antidepressant effect and safety of tianeptine in PD.
