•Novel test rig enabling investigations of flame quenching at pressures of up to 10 bar and increased Reynolds numbers is introduced and described in detail.•Characterization of two operating cases (1 bar and 3 bar) with regard to flow and flame dynamics based on PIV/OH-PLIF measurements.•Flame is classified at the transition from the wrinkled to the corrugated flamelet regime.•Flame quenching events are classified into three scenarios depending on the near-wall flame front topology.
