Practical evaluation of four classification levels of Soil Taxonomy, Hungarian classification and WRB in terms of biomass production in a salt-affected alluvial plot

•Yield prediction capability of distinct soil classification systems differs much.•Homogeneity of WRB soil classes increases with increasing number of classes.•Soil Taxonomy is parsimonious, but not correlated to environmental variables.•Hungarian Classification is most correlated with elevation and plant biomass.
