Stereoselective synthesis and investigation of mechanism of trifluoromethylated cyclopropylphosphonate

•Trisubstituted trifluoromethylated cyclopropylphosphonate derivative was prepared by MIRC protocol.•NMR studies, as well as DFT calculations confirmed observed preference of the reaction for the formation of only one isomer.•Obtained compound can be used as a potential tool for development of a novel class of drugs.
