摘要
Aim: To evaluate the correlation between chronic periodontitis and hematological parameters. Methods: This research comprised 100 systemically healthy individuals aged 25-50 years. Group A (Category A) and Group B (Category B) were formed from the participants (Category Bs). Those in Group A had clinically apparent evidence of chronic periodontitis, whereas participants in Group B had clinically healthy gingiva with no signs of gingivitis or periodontitis. Following the completion of the gingival findings, venous blood samples were taken from each subject and haematological parameters were examined. Results: In the Category B and Category A groups, the mean Hb levels were 14.02 +/- 0.66 and 13.44 +/- 2.36 g percent, respectively. There was a statistically significant difference. The Category B group had a mean erythrocyte count of 5.02 +/- 0.25 million/mm3, whereas the Category A group had a count of 4.77 +/- 0.65 million/mm3. There was a statistically significant change (P 0.05). The MCH for Category A was 28.98 3.12 pg, whereas the MCH for Category B was 29.98 +/- 3.69 pg. The MCHC for the Category B group was 34.02 +/- 0.77 pg/dl greater than for the test group (33.11 +/- 0.88 pg/dl). Both had statistically significant differences (P=0.017 and 0.04, respectively). MCV values were shown to be non-statistically significant. In the Category A group, 24 percent of patients were anaemic in terms of Hb, compared to 6 percent in the Category B group. Conclusion: We concluded that though mild but chronic periodontitis does show its effect on the systemic health of the participant. The effects observed are, however, not as aggressive as compared to other diseases since chronic periodontitis disease in itself is a very mild insidious inflammatory condition.
