The late Holocene hydroclimate variability in the Northwest Himalaya: Sedimentary clues from the Wular Lake, Kashmir Valley

•Wular Lake levels, redox conditions, and organic matter supply significantly altered over the last ∼4.2 kyr BP.•Hydroclimate varied from early wetter to relatively drier conditions and severe drought before the wet Little Ice Age.•Latitudinal migration of inter-tropical convergence zone drove seasonal precipitation turnover in Kashmir Valley.•A spatially coherent hydroclimate is found in the Northwest Himalaya during the late Holocene.
