A new pseudo 3D hydraulic fracture propagation model for sandstone reservoirs considering fracture penetrating height

•We established a new P3D hydraulic fracture propagation model applicable to Sandstone reservoirs.•Compared with 2D models such as the PKN model, the new P3D model has an outstanding advantage, that is, the fracture height is changing.•The simulation results are highly consistent with the actual propagation of hydraulic fractures, which indicates the accuracy of the proposed model.
