A Novel Fast Charger Architecture with Reduced Impact on Distribution Grids Based on V2V Power Transfer
2021 IEEE Vehicle Power and Propulsion Conference (VPPC)(2021)
Abstract
To support the mass market adoption of battery electric vehicles (BEVs), an appropriate charging infrastructure is necessary, and fast charging stations are expected to play a key role. However, their deployment requires costly reinforcements of the distribution grid. This paper presents a novel architecture of a fast charger with reduced impact on the grid. By enabling V2V power transfer from a fleet of shared electric vehicle, the power demand on the electrical grid is reduced. The topology is based on multiport active bridge (MAB) converter and control aspects in the various operating modes are investigated. A simulation of a 50 kW fast charger is performed.
