Abstract
•Drought treatment could shift recovery pathways for an early-successional Mediterranean shrubland, with altered mature state, delayed succession and alternative stable state.•Resilience of species diversity and abundance metrics to severe droughts were lower in mature successional stage than young stage.•Long-term drought caused the variation in vegetation metric space (especially for the first principal components).
