Atomic and electronic composition study of different anticonvulsants stabilized on titania-nanoreservoirs

Abstract
The physicochemical characterization of titania nanoreservoirs impregnated with four anticonvulsants and a reference is presented. The homogeneous stabilization of the compounds is investigated upon the structures observed for the samples. Results show the existence and atomic concentration of the characteristic elements present in the anticonvulsants, corroborating the proper stabilization into the matrix. Evaluations in the titanium 2p core level indicate there is no physicochemical interaction between the drugs and the oxide matrix, which only acts as a reservoir. Further, the presence of titanium ions with charges 4+ and 3+, as well as the peaks observed for the oxygen 1 s orbital, confirm the formation of oxygen deficiencies and lattice oxygen coordination, which translate into the generation of punctual defects, an important characteristic for nanostructured reservoirs. Consequently, the titania can be used as an anticonvulsant delivery device.
