Tension pneumothorax during laparoscopically assisted gastrectomy

Injuries to the pleura during laparoscopic surgery are a known but rare complication. In the event of unexpected haemodynamic and pulmonary problems during anaesthesia, a pneumothorax must be considered in the differential diagnosis. The sonographic verification of a pneumothorax secures the diagnosis and the further procedure. Rapid diagnosis and therapy are essential and require clear communication between the anaesthesiological and surgical team.
