Synthesis, structures, spectroscopies and properties studies of two organotin (IV) carboxylates with 1,4-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid

•Two new organotin carboxylate [(Ph3Sn)2L(ONC3H7)2] and [(Cy3Sn)2L] were determined by X-ray diffraction.•The complexes can degrade MB effectively and have good stability.•The complexes can be used as photocatalysts for the treatment of organic pollutants.•Due to the existence of hydrogen bonds that complex 2 can be more stable.
